What About Intuition?
I’ve always been a logical person – my decisions have always been based on a painstaking analysis of facts and figures…but lately I’ve been asking
What about intuition?
"Leaders trust their guts. "Intuition" is one of those good words that has gotten a bad rap. For some reason, intuition has become a "soft" notion. Garbage! Intuition is the new physics. It's an Einsteinian, seven-sense, practical way to make tough decisions. Bottom line, circa 2001 to 2010: The crazier the times are, the more important it is for leaders to develop and to trust their intuition."
- Tom Peters, Management consultant and best selling author
Have you had a bad experience from ignoring your gut feelings?
I know I have!
So maybe intuition means more than I thought…
I’m GREEN & BLUE
So I am logical, organized, and factual…The only thing I let my “gut feelings” help me decide is what’s for dinner!
HOWEVER:
I’ve decided to take a risk – to challenge MY OWN status quo!
To challenge MY internal conversation when making a decision!
I’ve decided to listen to my gut and let intuition play a role in my personal decision making!
Facts and figures will always be important to me when making decisions, but perhaps my intuition is smarter than I thought…
Masaru Ibuka Founder and chairman of Japan's Sony Corp. was asked in an interview, "What is the secret of your success?"
He said he had a ritual. Preceding a business decision, he would drink herbal tea. Before he drank, he asked himself, "Should I make this deal or not?" If the tea gave him indigestion, he wouldn't make the deal. "I trust my gut, and I know how it works," he said. "My mind is not that smart, but my body is."
Intuition and gut feelings are what EMPOWER & INSPIRE leaders!
When we think intuitively we become more passionate about the decisions we to make; and, it is that passion that drives us to INSPIRE, CHALLENGE and CHANGE!
We cannot LEAD that what we do not BELIEVE!

Joe

What are the myths about poverty in Canada?
"Like slavery and apartheid, poverty is not natural.
It is man-made and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings."

Thanks, Joe, for the great comments.
Intuition, in my view, is a central and real part of everything we do.
John Lennon has a song, Intuition, in which he says, "my instincts are fine, I had to learn to use them in order to survive… My intentions are good, I use my intuition, it takes me for a ride… intuition takes me there, intuition takes me everywhere".
Intuition invites the possibility of other choices when logic and analysis seem to fall short.
And intuition, as you so rightly suggest, really acknowledges how we are fine tuned to connect to the world in a lot of ways.
Finally, I love your comment about trusting your gut to more than the taste of good food!
